Walking around Frieze I realised that I now care even less about what the art means or what the artist is trying to portray. I’m done with all that rubbish. I’d rather make my own opinion. I just like a beautiful picture or an admirable technique! Here are my highlights….
October 14, 2011
I went to a full on Graffiti WAR up in Holloway known as Meeting of the Styles!
It was very calm in fact, not war-like, and there was even reggae. Amazing graffti being done – beautiful shapes, colours and details…….

I teamed up with DAS Collection to provide shoes for their fashion week show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout in which Amber Le Bon was modelling!
Backstage shoe fitting….

The run up to LFW was manic, but Mr CLEO B and I still managed to rustle up a kick ass stand in 2 days….!
WOW WOW WOW
My responsiblity…. cutting….
Spraying….
Oh so cool….. GIANT cassettes!!!
A hole for the telly…
The joys of spray paint stuck in my nails for days and days…..
The finished stand is packed up in the Mr CLEO B-mobile

And put up in the CLEO space…!!!!
And it was….literally.. LIKE THAT!! BOOM!
A day spent creating the SS12 lookbook, photographed (and filmed – watch this space!) by Mr CLEO B….

I designed and painted some custom CLEO B Air Force 1s for @FatManScoop – inspired by his story – popcorn and ice cream. As well as his NYC radio station Full Throttle.

CLEO B shoes were brought in for the filming for Orange Hill‘s first single ‘Wine De Best’ featuring Fat Man Scoop, Kano & Busy Signal. This part of the video was shot in a aeroplane!

Welcome to Magicland…..
Cordelia and I hand painted a Unicorn-drawn carriage for the window….
Cordelia’s signature hand made chiffon pom poms were hung in our window….
We created a golden tree to hang shoes on… I chose the tree in a wood, it was cut down, brought to London and somehow got it through the boutique door. We then used about 6 cans of gold spray to give its amazing metallic finish! Cordelia hand cut hundreds of paper flowers that were each individually glued on to the branches…
We then had a big party to celebrate the magic!
I also made embroidered textile evil eyes to hang…..
Thank you to our sponsors Skyy vodka with Rose Mojitos.

I ate roast beef.
Just now I picked up a cup cake from newly opened Peggy Porschen on Elizabeth Street – an indulgent accompaniment to a couple of hours of designing….
And they let me come in and buy one after closing…..

“A new breed of female shoe designer is emerging in London to challenge established names such as Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin”
“Indeed, many women graduates of such colleges have gone on to launch collections of their own and then to open London stores. Cleo Barbour, for example, graduated from Cordwainers College (now part of the London College of Fashion) in 2008, and at the age of 25, opened her Cleo B store on Ebury Street, London, in March. Wedges make up a large part of her art deco-inspired designs, which sell from £210.”

I love what they’ve written…
” From Birds of Paradise to City of Golden Dreams to now Beirut Bliss Town, Ms. Barbour continues to create heels that are very feminine and sculpturally attractive at the same time. This season Cleo taps into her cultural heritage to create a collection that is influenced by the beautiful city of Beirut and Arabic architectural staples such as gilted arches, jewel encrusted domed ceilings and colorful cross linear glass stained windows. Beirut Bliss Town is represented throughout this collection by jewelled embellishments, column-styled heels and bright rich colors.”

Posh by Laura Wade is currently showing at The Royal Court – on Sloane Square – and is about the fictional Riot Club , an elite student dining club at Oxford (similar to The Bullingdon, which David Cameron was apparently a member of). Controversial seeing as it was playing during the lead up to the election. I went to see it last week and it was so amusing! I’m not that keen on theatre, but this was great. It was about something serious, but was made funny…. it was rude, yet some aspects were worryingly realistic. The boys rendition of Dizzy Rascal and other recent chart hits was hilarious, I was crying with laughter. Ticket’s may have sold out now and it ends on 22nd May, but visit the Royal Court’s website. See an interview with Laura Wade by The Evening Standard here.

I LOVE THIS FEATURE, AS I AM STANDING NEXT TO MY PAL ISSY IN THE PHOTO – HOW RANDOM AND AMAZING!!!
CLEO B has opened the doors of a brand new debut shoe boutique, nestled within London’s fashionable Belgravia.
Destined to attract a niche set of shoe lovers, the signature black, turquoise and gold shop, just 6 minutes walk from Sloane Squareon Ebury Street, is in the company of many a fashion luminary, including Philip Treacy, Donna Ida, Jenny Packham and Erickson Beamon. The exquisite space is an expression of the designer Cleo Barbour’s vibrant personality and signature style which includes Art Deco inspired antique furniture and graphic carpet patterns. The launch sees the creation of a truly luxurious and welcoming shoe haven.
Last week the boutIque launched in true style. Guests spilled out onto the street, sipping pink champagne, and took home pink goody bags, whilst The Queens of Noize paired up with The Voguettes to create a magical mix of tunes. Delicious canapes were created by Keith Goddard, Head Chef of the exceptional 101 Pimlico Road and the boutique was decorated with giant long stemmed roses thanks to florist Only Roses.
Here are the photo highlights, but a full report of the party will be in the Events page – which is coming soon!

Footwear Friends is a charity which provides financial assistance to people who have worked in the Shoe Trade but have fallen on hard times. They are the only charity dedicated solely to the support of those have served the footwear industry, whether in design, manufacture, distribution, retail or repair.
Alex Finlay made a really inspirational speech about how she set up her company Fins.

Pink dress from Hussy would look perfect with my Paradise wedges (also at the shop) - for a total pinkified look.

I'm in need of black dresses like this so I can show off my shoes. This one's from Stretsis, who, fyi, have an amazing spring summer collection that I saw and nearly died.

I really want a sequin top, I know I'm a bit behind on the trend, but am just recovering from a sequin number I wore to a party when I was fifteen, which made me look like a whale in the photos. I need to banish that photo somehow. This one is made by Joveeba...

I like round things and these gold balls did it for me. Love it. Made by Daisy Jewellery and it's only £39. Save me one please!!

You may have seen the CLEO B poster in Gloucester Road last month…..it’s not confirmed…but there’s talk of more posters for Spring Summer which I’m excited about!!!!!!!!
It’s all thanks to Art Below and a man called Ben Moore who the Guardian online have written about this week. Here’s a quote from the article which I’m pretty keen on:
“A far cry from today when Art Below commands some of the most radical names in the progressive arts and fashion scenes – Cleo B, Sean Power, Phillip Levine, Johnny Blue Eyes, Nick Ruston, Ada Zanditon, French Sayer and Sarah Maple. It has exhibited the work of over 500 artists and designers and received international acclaim, counting Tokyo and Berlin amongst its global exhibition network.”

Last week I had my lucky friends over to my pad so they could make pre-orders on the Spring Summer 2010 CLEO B shoes…..I can’t believe we didn’t get a photo of the cupcakes (made by Rosebud, of course). They were almost too pretty to eat…..or photograph it seems.

On Wednesday night I went to Zoe Griffin’s partaaay at the Kingly Club to celebrate the launch of her fab website and the launch of a new map feature on the site with the capacity to map where important people are spotted in London. Wow – sounds very technical and twitter-tastic! Zoe has become a big fan of CLEO B shoes since she saw the tremendous Tribeca booties at London Fashion Week!!
Fashion at the party was impressive and Zoe herself looked stunning in a floor length black and white dress…she also commented on CLEO B on her blog the next day:
Got no photos of my own because had officially dumped my camera and left it at home by wednesday night.

GOLDIE BOOTIE (ACTUALLY IN NEW BLACK SUEDE VERSION – HOT!!)
SUPERB

I showed my new CLEO B Spring Summer 2010 collection ‘City of Golden Dreams’ (a nickname for New York) at London Fashion Week recently. The collection went down a storm!! Richie joined me on one of the days and we did some crazy cool photos of the collection – below is a little taster. The colleciton is inspired by Art Deco architecture of New York, so we were trying to mirror the fast-paced movement of the city and the bright lights, etc! We went a little mad……
Myself in my stand at LFW – the lights were so wonderfully bright – wearing my Paradise wedges available at Dover Street market and www.the-stylestore.com
My fav Tribeca bootie – the eye catcher!
Art Deco glass adornments go crazy in the bright lights!!
Shiny shiny bootie…

Woooossshh!! These look like fast moving cars…

Went to see new band Ou Est Le Swimming Pool this week at Pure Groove. They are made up of three boys from Camden – a rudeboy, a peroxo-blonde-tip boy with a nice green jersey, and a moustache-boy on the keyboard. I loved all of their songs….listen on myspace.

Prescott & Mackay, the school of fashion and accessories design, have published an interview with myself about my journey so far into shoedom. Read it on their blog. They have previously interviewed Finnish shoe designer Aki Choklat, who is also a lecturer at the school, find this further down the blog. Prescott and Mackay offers a range of short courses in shoe design, bag making, belt making, corsetry and tutu making (cute!) to suit all abilities. The classes are held within Black Truffle, a fab boutique on Warren Street, but they also arrange some courses for shoe enthusiasts in San Francisco. So, if you have an urge to learn more about accessory making Prescott & Mackay is the perfect place to begin your mission. The tuition is top quality and you’ll find yourself in a friendly and relaxed environment below a fashion boutique (an added plus!). Visit Prescott & Mackay website here.Happy Bank Hols,

The stylish pink and black ‘Yobi’ (which has been handpicked by some of fashion’s finest as their favourite style from AW09!) is a perfect day or evening shoe. Before I launched Cleo B, I found that there was a certain type of shoe missing from my wardrobe – a really unique and good quality flat that I could wear in the evening if I was planning on walking/taking the tube. Luckily I now have my Cleo B flats so I’m sorted! They are also great for work and meetings - they are a good balance between stylish / comfortable / smart. The simple design of Yobi combined with the eye-catching pink means that they can make the statement – they look great with a simple LBD and opaque tights or just with jeans and and a plain t-shirt or jacket.
Out of the entire colleciton I have worn Saxony the most – I adore them. The combination of the lustruous black patent with teal suede and gold snake looks vaguely Egyptian and even though these shoes are for winter, they look great with tanned skin. Saxony are designed to wear with simple chic feminine outfits.

Goldie shoe-boot has a hidden secret – a 1cm platform! This means they look higher than they feel. They are really quite sexy for a mid-heel boot. I have been wearing mine with straight cut black jeans and floral print dresses.
hello
hello
hello
Berrypecker – simplicity rules this style. It is a unique version of a simple black stiletto with glistening patent running over the toe and down the heel. Its the perfect shoe for when you are wearing a loud outfit – it’s impressive in its own right but will never clash with your dress!

Ribbontail with the glorious Cleo B wedge heel. I love this heel because it makes you feel so so stable – no wobbles! Ribbontail is a key colour for this season – it’s perfect worn with a black dress (the shorter the better).
hello

Splendid wedge is a fab evening jeans shoe (as long as they are skinny round the ankle and don’t cover up any of the golden flashes of snake at the back.)

Violet May's Gold Python Blackberry purse.
I’m so thrilled with my gold python Blackberry purse from Violet May that I just have to tell someone. I discovered Violet May on The Cool Hunter and knew immediately that I was onto something pretty damn cool. Violet May founder Claire Collins’ idea was to bring an element of luxury and exclusivity to the lives of business women, by launching a range of fashionable business accessories. The collection includes stylish laptop cases, card cases travel bags and I think they even have a bespoke service. The fab thing about the purse is that there are so many hidden compartments and ample room for my brick-ish blackberry. I can even fit my house keys in the coin department and I’m 100% set for a carefree evening out.
Anyway, I discovered that my gold python purse (pictured) looks spot on with this season’s Cleo B Goldie grey suede, golden heeled shoe bootie and am now in gold snakey heaven !

Cleo B collection in the VIP Tent

Showjumping - a spectators sport
Bolesworth Show Jumping Classic, brainchild of Nina Barbour, took place last weekend in the heart of Cheshire. Top class show jumping, trade stands, corporate hospitality and a dog show are among the attractions. The classes attract the likes of John Whitaker (who even I know is one of the best!) and many other top riders. I managed to grab some attention for Cleo B by placing the collection in prime position within the corporate VIP tent, where the shoes were surrouned by Cheshire most fashionable and stylish ladies. Suki entered 6 classes in the dog show (we came home empty handed : ( ) and was introduced to the worlds hugest, most scary Newfoundland (which also happened to be called Cleo!). We paid a visit to the fairground, unfortunately this was after a rather heavy lunch – not a good idea. (I recovered with a delicious passion fruit gin and tonic from My Gineration.). The weekend was a all round great success, however I also had the job of selling the very upmarket Bolesworth Classic raffle tickets in aid of an extremely worthwhile charity The Catwalk Trust. We made an incredible £3250 which made the weekend even better. Keep checking back for news of the Cleo B shoe boutique launch! Coming very soon…

U.S. blog Fa’shoe’nista is a newly acquired fan of CLEO B shoes. They have just broadcast a recent interview with myself focusing on the inspiration and influences behind the CLEO B Autumn Winter 09 debut footwear collection and why Birds of Paradise captured my imagination.

I can’t wait until the next Bolesworth Classic Showjumping on 10th 11th, 12th July. The other day I attended the press day for the event and, apart from much acclaimed showjumper Geoff Billington stealing the limelight by jumping a massive showjump with a glass of wine in his hand, my feet got rather a lot of attention (thanks to pink and black flat Yobi)!!! They caught the attention of Emma Higgin who liked them enough to include a feature on Cleo B in her daily blog on www.thehorseexchange. com (2nd May

Suki got scared
entry). The only disturbing part of the morning for Suki and I was meeting the huge and hairy Newfoundland dogs who are appearing at the event as a spectacle – they rescue their owners from the lake. I introduced poor Suki to the pack of hairy beasts, who started shaking and squeaking. In the frenzy of it all, one of them managed to deposit an alarmingly large smear of drool across my whole bum. It made my stomach turn but at least it missed the shoes! The dogs were quite cute apart from that. Suki is still rules though.

Suki is pleased to see me home from a fleeting trip to Bologna for Lineapelle Fair to find leather, components and other delicious gems for next spring / summer’s CLEO B shoe collection. In fact, her favourite perch has been taken over by leather samples, colour cards and other such goodies! How exciting!

I’m wearing Glossy at my desk as I work, oh beautiful Glossy how I love you – with your lustrous golden heel, your devilish shiny black colour. Your glistening gold adorno keeps catching my computer-tired eye . Glossy I want to eat you up. Glossy you are all mine!!!!!

Dearest Glossy....oh how you make my world a better place

My kitchen turned into a chocolate nest making factory in preparation for my first CLEO B London personal order evening last Thursday. Now I just remember it as a busy blur of calculator tapping and shoe chatting, but No.2 was swarming with so many shoe fans and friends, it was pretty hard to get rid of them at the end. When we were finally done, my exhausted shoe team sat down and ate sausages for dinner (followed by nests). Photos tell the full story! I want to say a massive thanks too all who helped me out….. the boys- Matt my fabulous doorman, Alvaro my lifesaver, Charlie my favourite boy & the girls Sar, Moo & Clar…. xxxxx.

What a turnout! Last weekend I invited friends to a CLEO B ‘Shoe Breakfast’ in Cheshire. The shoes went down exceptionally well and numerous personal orders were placed – more than I expected. It ain’t just city dwellers who like CLEO B…… Suki the dog played her usual role of treading on shoes and jumping on sofas, but it wouldn’t have been the same without my mini shoe mascot.

CLEO B shoe ‘Ribbontail’ has been chosen as a favourite of Vogue and represents the Cleo B collection in an online article. Click here to read it.

Cleo B’s pink and gold snakeskin shoe ‘Splendid’ had its first evening out in London on the 12th March. I wore a pair to the fabulous 5th birthday party of Boudoir PR! Splendid served me well all evening, and were greatly admired by shoe-lovers. There’s something great about a wedge heel that stops me from wobbling…..helpful when you still want to look cool after a few drinks. (Splendid wedge will be available to buy online for Autumn Winter 2009). Sally-Anne and her Boudoir team were partying on down at Jalouse surrounded by well-wishers sipping delicious fruity cocktails. Thank you and Congratulations Boudoir PR…..(amazing goody bags too!!)

The fun has just begun…
